Skiff- a small boat for one or two people.
The old man boarded the skiff with his poles and mast.
The skiff was very easy to tip over so i had to be careful.
Sfiffs skipp across the water because they are so light.

Reading The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Heminway is like
it's plot it is slow and boring but in the end, it pays off. The book is about an
old man named Santiago but is referred to as the old man who is a commercial
angler in 1950’s Cuba. The book tells about his patience while trying to catch
the biggest fish of his life by battling the fish for about four days as it
pulls him far out to sea. I picked this book because I like to fish and though
it would be good but it was a super slow book that will put you to
sleep.


The theme is important to
life; you do not always get what you want even if you try very hard. The old man
had been having trouble having not caught a fish in 84 days when he hooked a
giant marlin. He fought the huge fish for about four days while it dragged him
far out into the Gulf Stream. When he finally got the fish, sharks ate it up on
the trip back to port. Since the setting of the book took place at sea the
opposite would be on land and obviously trying to catch fish on land is
impossible, so it has to take place at sea or the book wouldn’t be
correct.


Two important characters in
the book would be the old man and the marlin. The old man and the marlin are
enemies throughout the book but they respect each other’s strength and
knowledge. The old man becomes wiser through the book because every minute the
marlin was dragging him further out to sea this teaches him to have more
patience and to respect the fish. The old man is important to the plot because
it is about him and his recent bad luck. He is important to the theme because he
is the character that learns the lesson when he battles the marlin and losses it
he learned about patience and that sometimes it does not work out. The marlin is
important because it is the conflict it is what is fighting the old man. It is
important to the plot because it is what the old man was trying to catch to
break his streak of bad luck. It is important to the theme because it teaches
the old man to respect and be patient and that you don’t always get what you
want.


The structure of the book
was great it was very simple witch I like so just about anyone can read it. It
uses a lot of flashbacks in the beginning and in the end when the old man keeps
dreaming of seeing loins on the beaches of Africa in his younger days. Three
major events would be when the old man hooked the fish, when he sees it for the
first time and when the sharks eat it. When he hooks the fish the effect is that
he has just begun the battle of his life. When he sees it for the first time it
jumped out in front of the skiff the effect is that he realizes just how hard it
is going to be to catch him and that it is the biggest fish he has ever caught.
  When the sharks eat the marlin he is disappointed but realizes that he has
  learned a valuable lesson and has become wiser also he realizes he is going to
  need more help because he is getting too
old.


The syntax of the book is very
  simple which makes the book so easy to read and simple to understand. “He no
  longer dreamed of storms, nor of women, nor of great occurrence, nor of great
  fish, nor of fights, nor contest of strength, nor of his wife.” (Hemingway page 25) This
sentence seemed to long and repetitive and I think that Hemmingway should have
cut some of it out so that there are three or four things instead of seven.
“After it is light, he thought, I will work back to the forty-fathom bait and
cut it away too and link up the reserve coils.”(Hemingway page 51)This sentence is written
very well a reader that doesn’t fish could easily become confused by this but
Hemmingway does a good job simplifying this for the reader. “We must get a good
killing lance and always have it on board. You can make a blade from a spring
leaf from an old Ford. We can grind it in Guanabacoa. It should be sharp and not
tempered so it will break. My knife broke.”(Hemingway page 125) These sentences should be
combined in to one or two sentences the way it is it is too short and choppy it
doesn’t flow smoothly like it should. “it is so easy to see why Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize, and why he deserves all of his accolades”(Zack Davisson amazon.com) I do not agree with this review I think it was
an ok book I don’t think it was that good of a book to win
one. “It seems that many of the people got bored of the book because there are no
successive excitements throughout the story”(No name customer amazon.com) I agree with this
review there were really no exiting parts in the book just the same excitement
  range all the way through. “His talent was declining, he had over the past ten years written far more bad books than good ones”(Robert Moore amazon.com)I agree with this review this book falls into that
list it was not as good as I hoped it would be but sometimes you don’t always
get what you want.


So
what? This book was easy to read because the syntax was simple there was nothing
to flashy. I would recommend this book to people that do not mind reading a
bland book also to people that like to read about fishing. I thought of this
book, as just like fishing it can be slow and boring at times but in the end,
you learn something important. The theme of the book did attach to me because I
know what it’s like to work hard and come up short. Over all I didn’t really
like the book and I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend.

So far I have enjoyed reading your book it is very interesting and keeps me thinking constatly because of facts that you use such as "Meade's dour army was moving northward across the Patomic just east of Hancocks troops." Page 28. I have to paint the map in my head and i have to keep moving people and army's around as the book unfolds and i enjoy it i take as a mental challenge. I also like how you try to keep the book unbiased like in "The union forces were better equiped and prepared for the battle but the comfederates had better trained men and knew how to forage for equipment." page 14.

           Just about every kid wants to become a rock star or a professional athlete when they grow up.But most of them never get the chance to pick up a guitar because they can be very expensive. I was fortunate enough to be able to start playing on my uncles guitar a few years ago. I would like my future employers to know this about me because I am hoping to work in the field of guitars one day. I would like to instead of becoming a rock star become a sells man for some of the major companies like Gibson or Fender.If that doesn't work out i would like to build them. Recently I built a electric guitar and it came out very good and i had fun building it so I would like to maybe do that.

      Lately there has been a lot of talk about the Chicago teacher strikes in the news. People are

taking sides whether to support it or oppose it. Cornelius Gyamfi and Rives McWhirter both

oppose the strike; we have many reasons why we oppose it. 
      
        These teachers are very well paid. There's 75,000 salary is one of the highest in the

nation. yet they want more. We think that they shouldn't get paid more because

there are many teachers getting paid less. We think that the only way that they

can get paid more is through better test scores. By their students succeeding on

tests they must be good teachers. Therefore they get paid more.

         Chicago has one of the highest death rates in the country, teacher's going on strike
 
may lead the kids to resort to even more violence and hinder the learning curriculum. People
 
would start moving in hope of a brighter future. And since their salaries aren't the lowest they

should be able to pay fr their own healthcare. Chicago teacher's aren’t the only one's facing these
conditions and eventually the government will do something about it.

           But they do need healthy and clean facilities to teach in. A school filled with bugs

and rats is unhealthy and leads to sickness and less motivation for the

students. Clean schools will help students be healthy and on task. I think that

all schools should be clean and updated; no schools should be older than 30 or

35 years old without upgrade.


          Student behavior is a major issue in the strike. Teachers love their students but

some bad student’s don’t get respect from the teachers. Students that consistently show up late

to class and don’t complete assignments aren’t teacher’s pets. Students that cause

distractions and fight can pout teachers. These teachers are sick of it; they want students to be more
 
civilized and respectful. I feel that if students become more respectful and better students that would help

ease tension.


   There are also little facts that are going unnoticed, even if charter schools are not part of the strike like

the school system’s poor performance , one-quarter of public school students failed

to graduate from high school, and a third of fourth-graders failed to meet

reading standards not math but reading standards. These teachers need to

work with the leadership instead of fighting the system. This whole movement

acts like no teachers in these cities have ever cared or tried to educate the

children.

Can a Pet help a persons well-being? I belive that a pets do this all the time. It is often said that a dog is mans best friend because of their loyalty and obediance.The pet doesnt just have to be a dog though lots of people have pet fish. A pet is like a friend you can play with them. A dog can fetch a ball a cat can play with a fake bird and you can teach parots how to say a specific sentence.Pets can help your well-being by never leaving you when poeple do. Pets also make you exersise a dog must go for a walk every day a fish needs food so you must get off the couch and feed it . They also teach responsibility,They teach you to awalys remember to feed it in the morning and at night and let them out of the house to use the bathroom

Big Daddy is a, wealthy and
acumen, business man; he isn’t like any normal business man though. Big
  Daddy buys and sells illegal items that are smuggled into the U.S. These items
  can be anything from drugs, to pirated movies. Whatever is hot on the black
  market ,Big Daddy’s selling from his fifty million dollar mansion on South
  Beach. Big Daddy doesn’t just deal in illegal items though; he owns many
prosperous nightclubs in downtown Miami.


It all started when Big Daddy was
having issues with the cops. His runners kept getting caught by police because
their Toyota Prius’, with a 65 mph top speed, were to slow. Big Daddy
wasn’t happy.


He said, “Kate girl I’ve lost almost a
hundred thousand dollars in fake Ray Bans just this month. My runners be
trippin’ and I don’t like that. They need the latest and greatest in getaway
cars.”


Kate, his ex-playboy model wife, agreed
and Big Daddy set off for the car dealerships in Fort
Lauderdale.


When Big Daddy hisscion,
and business partner, Minnie Daddy, got to the Lamborghini dealership
they told the salesman Luigi their problem.


“Luigi man my boys kept gettin’ their
booties pinched by the five 0 and I want it to stop.”


Luigi pointed them to the bright lime
green Giardo. Big Daddy pulled his fake Ray Bans down to the end of his nose and
said,


“SNAP!!!! That’s a good lookin’ car
Minnie Daddy. It looks like Kate in car form. But one thing Luigi can I get it
with machine guns and bullet proof windows built in.”


Luigi said, “Si Big
Daddy.”


 Big
Daddy was happy and placed a, somewhat small, order for one hundred
cars.


When Big Daddy’s personal neon orange
Lamborghini showed up, Kate fell in love with it. She constantly nagged Big
Daddy saying,


“Baby please pretty please let me drive
your new car, so green and beautiful.”


Big Daddy always dined her request by
politely telling her


“Kate you drive like a cross-eyed
hundred year old geezer. You couldn’t even get the damn car out of the garage
without wreckin’ it.”


One night Big Daddy needed someone to
take a delivery of fake liquor to one of his teeming nightclubs. He called every
man in his business but they were all doing other jobs for Big Daddy. He said to
Kate,


“Girl I aint got no one to take the
stuff to the club and I can’t cus’ I gotta’ meet my Minnie Daddy at
Piccadilly.”


 After
thinking for a while he finally said,


“Kate you can drive my car under one
circumstance if there one scratch on the thing you gonna clean the yacht.”



“Which yacht Big Daddy “asked Kate” The
big one the really big one or the super big one?


“The big one id never make do anything
hard.’’ he said and they both left to do their jobs.


Kate arrived at the nightclub around two
in the morning and delivered the liquor to the manager as quickly as she entered
she left to get back to the car before anyone could see it and key it. Being the
bleached blonde that she is she forgot where she parked it and searched for it.
After searching the parking lot for eight hours she started to freak-out.



She said,” Uh-oh it must have been
stolen.”


So she called a cab and headed home.
When she got home she told Big Daddy not think of how mad he would be.



He said,” Kate you have messed up for
the last time now you will be punished. You will work as a bar tender to find
who stole the car and get it and the fifty million dollars’worth of illegal
valuables inside back.”


A couple of weeks went by and Kate
had been on the trail she had become a girlfriend to a somewhat poor man named
Bob that claimed he owned a Lamborghini. One night he took Kate home and showed
her the car and right away she knew it was Big Daddies by the fried chicken
stain on the roof. She left before Bob could do anything else. To help keep
her weight down, Kate walked the forty mile trip back to Big Daddy’s mansion
and told him


“Big Daddy I have found it now my I live
my normal life now?”


He refused by saying “No I said get the
car back you stupid blonde.”


Kate had no idea how to get it back so
she came up with an idea


“I Kate Daddy,”she said,” will hire the
FBI.”


 By
FBI she meant Big Daddy’s two fake FBI agents, Agent A and Agent B.



One morning the two agents showed
up at Bob’s house. They knocked on his door and waited. Answering the
door, they shot him with a bb gun and took the car. They drag raced it on
the highway and picking up women in the charming piece of
machinery.


Big Daddy came outside and said “bout
damn time.’’


Opening up the hood, he retrieved his lost valuable a key
from the trunk.


“a key? What
does it go to a new house a new yacht?”


“Nope” said Big Daddy, “I have no
idea
